A tech company in East China’s Zhejiang Province has developed a software that frees parents from checking math assignments.

The app, “Love Homework,” was developed by Hangzhou Dana Technology. By simply taking a photo, it can check arithmetic* problems in one second, with over 95 percent accuracy. The free app has gained favor since its launch in early September, with more than 400,000 downloads in three weeks.

Beijing-Shanghai railway

China on Thursday increased the maximum speed of bullet trains on the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway to 350 kph, making it once again the world’s fastest train service some six years after it was reduced to 300 kph.

The speed increase will cut the journey between Beijing and Shanghai to four hours and 28 minutes. Connecting the Chinese capital in the north with the country’s major financial and trade hub in the south, the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway is one of the busiest in the country, carrying more than 100 million passengers a year.

Heavy travel

People are expected to make 560 million road trips across China during the National Day holiday, according to the Ministry of Transport.

The holiday, which coincides this year with the Mid-Autumn Festival, will run from October 1 to 8, one day more than usual. As a result, traffic on the nation’s highways is forecasted to rise by 10 percent compared to last year, ministry spokesman Wu Chungeng said on Thursday. “We’re expecting an average of 70.2 million road trips a day over the eight days,” Wu said, adding that an estimated 15.9 million trips will also be made by water — up by 5 percent year on year.

Cashless life

About 84 percent of Chinese people can accept going out without any cash, according to a report of mobile payment usage in China released on Friday by Chinese mobile payment solution WeChat Pay.

Based on statistics collected from 6,596 users in 324 Chinese cities, the report said 40 percent of Chinese go out with less than 100 Chinese yuan (US$15.2) of cash, even 14 percent of Chinese have already begun their cashless life. (SD-Agencies)
