深圳东湖中学初三学生拍摄微电影《迷网》

A micro film produced by Shenzhen Donghu Middle School premiered at a cinema in Luohu District on the afternoon of September 13. The film was the brainchild of He Siman, an 11th grade student from the school.

The 20-minute micro film is based on the true stories of students who overcame gaming addiction and cultivated healthy hobbies. The protagonist, named Xiaowei, suffered an addiction to computer games that resulted in poor performance at school. With the help of teachers, parents and classmates, he was able to realize the damage that indulging in online gaming had on his life and started to develop an interest in learning wind instruments.

It is reported that all the students, teachers, security and medical staff who appeared in the film were from the middle school. The young producer said he has witnessed a great number of students who play computer games excessively. “‘Mi Wang’(the film’s name) literally means addicting to online games, but also alludes to the loss of life, a homophonic pun. We should not be blinded by temptation. Instead we should maintain a long-term perspective and grasp the direction of life,” he said.

He fell in love with shooting films in the fourth grade at primary school. He often makes short films using an iPad of his own. In addition, he has already won many prizes for his works. Not long ago, another micro film he made, “Roast Duck in Dreams,” was nominated at the Santiago International Children’s Film Festival.
