Early warning

THE city’s waterway management center has set up an early warning broadcasting system in a bid to keep people updated about safety-related issues.

The system allows announcers to choose the sites and content of broadcasts and remind nearby residents to evacuate from dangerous river banks at the earliest possible time. Real-time monitoring of all equipment is also made possible with the new system in place, according to the city’s water resources bureau.

Station completed

THE main structure of Hai-shan Station, the first station on Metro Line 8, was officially topped off at a ceremony before the National Day holiday, marking a major milestone in the construction of Line 8.

Line 8, which runs 12.37 kilometers and covers Yantian and Luohu districts, will be put into operation in 2020.

Birds intercepted

A MAN who bought more than 1,000 birds in Hong Kong and wanted to release them in Dongguan was intercepted at Huanggang Checkpoint recently.

The man, who drove a business van carrying 1,056 live birds in 12 wooden cages, couldn’t provide related certificates when quarantine officers checked the van.

The birds have been handed to a supervising department for further investigation.
