Fugitive caught by cops after 10 years on the run

    2017-October-12  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A MAN who killed a person 10 years ago in Hunan Province was caught by patrolling cops at an Internet bar in Longgang District on Monday. The suspect admitted to his crime during interrogation.

Police from Tongle Police Station in Longgang found the suspicious man while conducting a routine check at an Internet bar in the district’s Tongle Community. The man showed his ID card to the cops when asked to show an identity document, but the photo on the ID card did not appear to match the man.

The police suspected that the man had stolen another person’s ID information and took him back to the police station for further investigation.

However, the man was not immediately cooperative with the police when they began their interrogation, which only made the police officers more suspicious of the man. More police forces were dispatched to investigate the man’s identity.

It turned out that the man is surnamed Xu and has been a fugitive for a murder that happened 10 years ago in Shaoyang City of Hunan Province.

It took the police another two hours of interrogating Xu until he finally broke down and confessed. Xu admitted that he was on the run for the murder that he had committed in May 2007.

Xu said he had been hiding from the investigation since then and worked randomly in Huizhou and Dongguan over the past decade without revealing his real name to anyone.

The suspect came to Shenzhen in August to find a job and stayed at the Internet bar. He thought his silence would help him get away from the investigation, but eventually the police found out his dark secret.
