SHENZHEN is aiming to become a more youth-friendly city where young people have more support and opportunities, said Liu Guangyang, secretary of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, at a gathering of more than 500 youth representatives Thursday.

The representatives from Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao attended the conference summoned by the Shenzhen Youth Association’s newly elected eighth committee and the sixth committee of the Shenzhen Students’ Federation at the Shenzhen Youth Square in Futian.

Liu said the league’s determined to help Shenzhen become a “Youth Developing City.”

Liu said they must reconsider the relationship between city development and youth development. “They are inseparable and always affect each other,” said Liu.

He said that the city must provide more activities and policies for youth development while the youth make contributions to the city’s development.

According to Liu, 10 fields related to youth development will be specially catered for when implementing the ideology, namely mindset guidance, education, health, innovation, social welfare, legal rights protection, social campaigns, volunteering, training programs and overseas exchange programs.

The youth league and the youth association will jointly put forward a proposal for Shenzhen’s youth development from 2017 to 2025. The proposal is expected to make youth-related indexes to be incorporated into national plans for economic and social development, said Liu.

The Shenzhen Youth Association has provided 27,000 internships for university students nationwide under its national program to recruit new talents, according to the association.

Another project initiated by the association, Grads Home, provided short-term accommodations and training programs for 8,300 newly graduated students who were looking for jobs in Shenzhen.
