A 19-YEAR-OLD student from Shenzhen won four awards in the Tbilisi International Piano Competition held in the Republic of Georgia last week, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.
Established in 1997, the Tbilisi International Piano Competition is one of the top four piano competitions in the world. It is held every four years in Tbilisi and many outstanding pianists from across the globe have participated.
Li Tianyi, a 19-year-old student from Shenzhen, won four awards during this year’s competition. Li has studied piano at the Dan Zhaoyi Piano Training Center in Shenzhen since he was 6 years old.
Dan is a professor at Shenzhen Arts School. He is also the teacher of Li Yundi, a globally renowned Chinese pianist.
Although Dan is very busy, he gave every class to Li Tianyi in person while Li was preparing for a performance or a competition.
Li has won many awards in Shenzhen and China since 2006. He was enrolled in the Manhattan School of Music’s affiliated middle school in the United States a few years ago. In 2015, he was admitted to New York University to study piano.
