HFM disease outbreak
CHILDREN, especially those under age 5, are advised to wash their hands properly to guard against the outbreak of Hand, Foot and Mouth (HFM) disease, according to the Shenzhen Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
The center has selected 18 kindergartens to conduct a six-month program on hand health care. A survey by the program released Sunday, the Global Hand Washing Day, showed that most children hadn’t formed the habit of voluntarily washing their hands after outdoor activities or when their hands became dirty.
Training classes
TRAINING classes for visually impaired pre-school children opened Sunday, the 34th White Cane Safety Day, offering early-stage intervention and education.
The classes, organized by the Shenzhen Federation for Disabled Persons, offer tailor-made interventions for children younger than 7 through collective and individual training courses.
At present, there are about 20 pre-schools for visually impaired children with Shenzhen hukou. Although their number is limited, the hardship they bring to their families is huge, and many families know little about the importance of early intervention for their children, according to Mao Zhenzhong with the Shenzhen Early Intervention Center for Children with Special Needs.
