Watch smuggling
A WOMAN was caught Oct. 6 by Luohu Customs for smuggling luxury watches hidden in shoes, customs said Monday.
The woman, wearing leisure garments, was among a crowd of travelers crossing the border at Luohu Checkpoint during the National Day holidays. When the woman went through a customs e-lane, the alarm went off since the photo on the travel permit looked quite different from the woman. She explained that she had misused her daughter’s travel permit.
Initial checks showed the woman had a record of multiple violations. When officers attempted to initiate a body search, the woman lost control and smashed her phone on the floor.
Customs officials later found two brand-new watches hidden separately in the shoes she was wearing and a third watch of the same brand on her wrist.
The woman has been handed to the anti-smuggling department for further investigation.
