New vice mayor
LIU QINGSHENG, a member of the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC, was elected vice mayor of Shenzhen at the 20th meeting of the Standing Committee of the Sixth Shenzhen Municipal People’s Congress on Tuesday.
The 56-year-old started working in Shenzhen in 1995. He has worked as deputy chief of the Publicity Department of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC, president of Shenzhen Media Group, head of Nanshan District Government and Party chief of Futian. Last September, Liu was appointed a member of the Standing Committee of Shenzhen Committee of the CPC.
Parking project
WORK on Phase I of the trailer service center for Yantian Port kicked off in Yantian District on Tuesday.
The service center, with a total investment of 3.48 billion yuan (US$527 million), covers an area of 113,300 square meters. The facility, with floor space of 449,500 square meters, will offer 2,000 parking spaces to solve parking difficulties of container trailers en route to Yantian Port.
Creative week
THE first Shenzhen-Macao Creative Week was inaugurated at Shenzhen Wuzhou Guest House on Tuesday, showcasing creative achievements of Shenzhen and Macao in the integration of the development of cultural creation and design services with related industries.
More than 20 experts, industry representatives from the design, culture, tourism and Internet sectors shared their experiences and ideas in the cross boundary integration of cultural creation and cultural tourism at the forum Tuesday.
New radar
A NEW-GENERATION high-definition meteorological radar system will be put into use at the end of the year.
The system is being tested at a tower in Bao’an District, according to Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory. The system is more accurate, has higher resolving capability and precision in rainfall estimation, than the present Doppler system, which was introduced to the city in 2007.
SZ awardees
THREE Shenzhen-based companies — UBTECH, Makeblock and Royole — won this year’s Chinese Management Model Research Award. The award is aimed at discovering excellent management models in Chinese companies. A total of eight companies stood out from 73 candidates to win this year’s award.
