Samaritan driver

A CHILD who lost consciousness and suffered from spasms was rushed to a hospital for treatment by an app-based cargo van driver last week.

The 1-year-old child had a fever Wednesday and was left at home in the care of his grandfather. But at 2 p.m. the child suddenly suffered from spasms, and the grandfather failed to hail a taxi downstairs for 10 minutes.

The cargo van driver, Zhao Guo, was on his way back after unloading cargo when he saw the senior holding the child in his arms, looking anxiously for a cab, in Nanshan District. Zhao offered to help and brought them to the hospital for free.

The medical record shows that the child was suffering from a fever, and her spasms were relieved after 20 minutes of treatment.

THE city’s traffic congestion severity index dropped by 9.7 percent on average over the past three months since the traffic police authority optimized traffic lights at 1,500 intersections across the city.

The optimization, based on big data and guidance of Internet data, can maximize the efficiency of traffic lights at intersections, the traffic police authority said.
