Zhang Qian zhqcindy@163.com Shenzhen University recently announced it has received 508 recommended postgraduate students from all around China this year. The number is a record figure for the university since the recommendation system was launched nationwide in 2014. The recommendation system for postgraduate students was enacted for use by universities with approval from the Ministry of Education to recommend outstanding undergraduate students to apply for master degrees without requiring the candidates to sit for the nationally-mandated post-graduate entrance examination. Each year, the Ministry of Education will dole out a certain number of recommended students to each approved university. Shenzhen University was permitted 150 spots for this academic year and it turned out that a total of 508 recommended students applied to pursue their post-graduate education at the university, the largest number of all approved universities in Guangdong Province. Among the 150 undergraduate students from Shenzhen University who were recommended to apply for their master degrees and dismissed from taking the entrance exam, 112 chose to stay at the university for their master programs. According to the university, all 25 faculty members received recommended students this year. |
