
MO YAN, winner of the 2012 Nobel Prize in Literature, will attend the Shenzhen Reading Forum, an important activity of Shenzhen Reading Month, to be held at Shenzhen Library on Nov. 11. Mo will give a keynote speech, titled “The Impact of Folk Art on My Fiction Creation,” at the forum. Three other writers, Liu Daren, Li Jingze and Bi Feiyu, will also give speeches at Shenzhen Library on Nov. 12, 25 and 26, respectively, according to organizers of Shenzhen Reading Month, which started yesterday. Shenzhen Reading Forum was initiated in 2001 and has invited more than 120 well-known cultural figures and writers to give speeches and share experiences. Besides forums, the organizers will initiate a series of other activities by inviting Zhonghua Book Company to host an exhibition of classic Chinese books and lectures on traditional Chinese cultures. Well-known cultural figures and experts from Hefei, Anhui Province, will be invited to Reading of Two Cities to exchange reading experiences during the two-day event later in the month. “Over the month, a total of 777 activities, including 58 key activities, will be organized around different reading themes,” Cao Yu, vice manager with Shenzhen Publishing Group, said. The highlight of this year’s reading month will be a series of activities around the theme, “New Era, New Reading.” Shenzhen’s four major book stores in Luohu, Futian CBD, Nanshan and Bao’an will set up special exhibition areas to display and sell around 200 publications including books about President Xi Jinping’s remarks and speeches, and the 19th CPC National Congress, according to the organizers at the inaugural ceremony of the 18th Shenzhen Reading Month at Shenzhen Book City CBD Store yesterday.
