SHENZHEN and Sweden shall look for opportunities to deepen ties in technology and innovation development, said Jiang Yuyang, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Congress and president of the Shenzhen Association for Science and Technology. Jiang made the remarks during a meeting with Magnus Breidne, vice president of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, on Tuesday before the China-Europe Wide Bandgap Semiconductor Forum kicked off at Wuzhou Guest House. After introducing Shenzhen’s overall technology and innovation development over the past three decades, Jiang specifically recommended the South University of Science and Technology of China (SUSTech), which was also one of the co-organizers of the forum, to Breidne. SUSTech is one of the top universities focusing on technology education in China, said Jiang, who proposed that the two higher education institutions join hands and develop postgraduate programs taught in English to attract students from the Nordic countries. Breidne said that he had already learned about SUSTech before his trip to Shenzhen and thought Jiang’s suggestion was very feasible and that the two universities should develop more cooperation in other technology research programs. Jiang also put forward the city’s blueprint for setting up an overseas innovation center in Scandinavia due to the area’s unique and profound achievements in innovation, especially in design, adding that Sweden is an ideal spot for Shenzhen’s overseas innovation center. Breidne agreed with Jiang and expressed his hope to see the innovation center set up in his hometown. (Zhang Qian) |
