Floating island wows marine expo visitors
    2017-12-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

HAVE you ever imagined a floating island could be a cozy home with luxury facilities that can also collect wind power while traveling the boundless sea? At the 2017 China Marine Economy Expo in Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province, high-tech products showcased by Shenzhen enterprises attracted a lot of attention, the Daily Sunshine reported Saturday.

A model of a floating island, presented by Shenzhen Hispeed Boats Technology Co. Ltd., became the highlight at the national pavilion. According to Zhang Wei, the company’s marketing deputy manager, the floating island project is the company’s latest attempt to change the future of humanity’s marine life.

The mobile island was not only built to resist strong gales, but was also equipped as a science and technology R&D center for the marine industry, marine cultural centers, maritime navigation institutes, maritime museums, maritime supply stations and fishery trading centers, among others.

It could even be made into an offshore swimming pool with offshore villas, yacht centers, maritime ranches, marine conference centers and offshore energy bases, realizing the integration of modular construction and a mini-city complex floating on the ocean.

Besides the floating island, wireless underwater communication equipment from Shenzhen Smart Ocean Technology Co. Ltd. also stunned the visitors. “Communication under water is achieved via ultrasound, but with great resistance and is completely weakened by a transmission of one or two kilometers. Our product aims to achieve underwater wireless network communication,” said Ge Yun, a sales manager with the company.

They also brought a newly developed underwater robot with embedded routers, which can swim underwater and communicate in any underwater area.

According to the Shenzhen Marine Industry Association, a total of 10 Shenzhen enterprises participated in this year’s marine economy expo, and another 20 companies came for the experience and to seek cooperation opportunities.

Organized by the State Oceanic Administration and the provincial government, this year’s China Marine Economy Expo was held in Zhanjiang from Thursday to yesterday.

Dubbed the No. 1 marine expo in China, it is the most comprehensive marine economic trade fair in the country.
