On the afternoon of October 25, our Senior High School held the opening ceremony of our sports meet. The sports meet lasted two days and ended successfully.

During the meeting, I was most impressed by the high jump competition. The athletes ran fast, started jumping and leapt over the crossbar. After they had jumped over a certain height, the competitors would continue to challenge the next height. The high jump competition originated from England and was listed as an event in the first modern Olympic Games in 1896.

The jumping postures include jumping, scissors, prone, back style and many others, of which the most popular is the back style. The world record for the men’s high jump is 2.45 meters, and the women’s is 2.09 meters. These heights are much taller than my height. That’s really amazing! In my school, the record for the boys’ high jump event is 1.85 meters.

In my class, Guo Xiaochen and Xu Yumin took part in the competition and they both got good places. I remember at one point Guo successfully jumped over the pole and we cheered for him, but then the rod fell off suddenly, which was disappointing for us. They finally received satisfactory prizes, which proved their hard work and athletic talent.

Everybody in my class participated in the sports meet by going all out to attend events and help and support the competitors. We had lots of moving moments that left us with unforgettable memories. We have deeply realized the significance of class unity. I will always remember this wonderful sports meet.
