A future hero
    2017-12-27  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Ke Yuhan, Class 4, Junior 2, Shenzhen Foreign Languages School

深圳外国语学校 初二(4)班 柯雨含

Sierra opened her eyes carefully and stared out of the window. Still the same: sidewalks, buildings and trees... But she could see no people, only herself sitting in complete silence, which made her insecure. She called her parents, but there was no answer — she was alone.

She went outside. The cool breeze which often brought comfort before frightened her now. She wanted to scream, to break the terrifying atmosphere but something deep inside refused her.

And soon she saw them — all chained together in a gigantic spaceship. The radar and the engines were humming but the people were silent. Sierra frantically tried to find her parents, but there were too many people, and she knew if she didn’t hide herself well, she could be caught, too.

She saw them, too, something that looked like an alien, but she was not sure. They were flying and swirling in some weird tiny flying objects, surveying the whole city secretly.

Sierra could hardly believe it. She thought that this kind of situation could only happen in fairy tales. She punched herself with her fist — she could feel the pain. It was not a dream; she sighed and lied down. It became dawn and the sun rose. She desperately took out her short knife, wanting to end her life.

“WAIT!” She heard something roaring in her mind. She hopped with surprise and swung the knife in the air. She asked nervously, “Who is it?”

Suddenly a black hole appeared next to her without any sign, scaring her to death.

“Don’t be afraid, Ms. Robeson,” came a gentle voice. “What you’ve seen is part of the future, including us all. But I believe that you have the power to save our planet...”

“Wait! What’s happening? Can I ever return to the past...?”

“Now our planet is facing the biggest danger ever, Sierra. Only you can resolve the danger. But don’t worry. We still have a plenty of time! If you are ready to accept this mission of rescuing our planet, walk through this black hole, and it will transfer you to the time you lived 20 years ago. And remember, our future is now in your hands. Please take your time. Keep your knife as sharp as a gliding flashlight!”

Sierra shouted, “But what should I do? I can’t even get an ‘A’ on a math exam. I am not the super hero you think! I am the wrong person!”

The voice laughed, “Trust me! You are much stronger than the person you think you are. So, good luck to you. I will see you again when you improve...”

Sierra was astonished, but the black hole seemed to become more and more unreal. So she jumped into the hole without any hesitation.

She blinked her eyes. The normal cityscape was lying in front of her. She found herself still sitting on her own lovely bed. She knew she was back, back to 20 years ago, but with a difficult task on her messy mind.

“What shall I do now?” She asked herself. She juggled the little knife between her fingers. She remembered something the voice told her: Keep your knife as sharp as a gliding flashlight. She was trying to figure out the meaning when a comet slid across the sunny sky, very bright and very abnormal.
