Liu Liping, Class 2, Senior 2, Shenzhen Xin’an Middle School. Instructed by Ye Haiyang, Tang Ying 深圳市新安中学(集团)高二(2)班 刘丽萍 指导老师:叶海洋.汤颖 Last term, I borrowed a book named “The Great Gatsby.” It was an English book, of course, with the Chinese translation on another page. To be honest, it was the first time I had read an English novel, and it was a little difficult because there were many new words and language points that I couldn’t understand very well. I needed to look them up in the dictionary or on the Internet. Because I spent a lot of time looking up new words, I read very slowly. However, I forced myself to read one page of the book each day. Sometimes I tried guessing words which I hadn’t learned from class instead of getting help from the dictionary. Guessing before looking them up immediately helped me remember the words better. Step by step, I formed a reading habit. In this way, I have learnt many new words. From reading the book, I understand now that whatever you do, perseverance helps you do better. Reading is a good way to gather new knowledge and broaden our horizons as well as relax ourselves. I hope you will read as many English books as possible. Then you will form a reading habit and gain a lot from them. |
