Axiom Brass Quintet from the United States will perform in Shenzhen this week. Praised for their “high level of musicality and technical ability” and for their “clean, clear and precise sound,” the award-winning quintet has established itself as “one of the major art music groups in brass chamber music.” Internationally recognized for their groundbreaking programming, their repertoire ranges from jazz and Latin music to string quartet transcriptions, as well as original compositions for brass quintet. Axiom Brass’ performances have captured the hearts and imaginations of their audiences, leading the ensemble to national radio and television appearances as well as concerts around the world. Under the direction of trumpeter Dorival Puccini, the quintet’s other members are tuba player Kevin Harrison, trumpeter Kris Hammond, trombone player Mary Tyler and horn player Melanie Erena Kjellsen. Puccini is a founding member of Axiom Brass. His interest in chamber music has led him to contribute over a dozen transcriptions for brass quintet specially written for Axiom Brass.
