Greater Bay Area

China will unveil and implement the development plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (also known as the Greater Bay Area), among other moves to promote the coordinated regional development of the country this year, Premier Li Keqiang said on Monday.

The country will promote in all areas mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas between the mainland, Hong Kong and Macao, Li said in a government work report delivered to the first session of the 13th National People’s Congress in Beijing on Monday.

Trade war

China and the United States share more mutual benefits than differences and cooperation is the only right option for both countries, said a spokesman for the annual session of China’s national legislature on Sunday.

The stable development of Sino-U.S. ties serves the fundamental interests of people of both countries and is much anticipated* by the international community, Zhang Yesui, former Chinese ambassador to the United States and spokesperson for the first session of the 13th National People’s Congress (NPC), told a press conference in Beijing.

Licenses issued

China on Thursday issued the country’s first three road test licenses to smart carmakers, making road tests of autopilot* vehicles legal.

Shanghai-based SAIC Motor received two of the licenses and the electric vehicle startup Nio obtained the other one. The licenses allow the operators to use a 5.6-km public road in Jiading District of Shanghai for testing smart cars. Huang Ou, deputy director of the Shanghai Commission of Economy and Information Technology, said the test road was designated based on a third-party appraisal.

TCM effect

A center under China’s top health authority apologized for publishing an article claiming that a product made from donkey hides*, traditionally believed to have medicinal benefits, has no medical properties.

The product, called ejiao, is a gelatin* used in traditional Chinese medicine and is regarded as having positive effects, including helping rejuvenate* the skin and relieve fatigue. (SD-Agencies)
