FUTIAN District is seeking designs nationwide for upgrading and renovating the “art of public toilets,” aiming to deepen the “Toilet Revolution” and make restroom use a comfortable experience for residents and tourists.

Four design works will be selected as the best designs. There will be one top winner who will be rewarded 50,000 yuan (US$8,000), one runner-up who will be rewarded 30,000 yuan and the two third-place designers will be given 10,000 yuan.

From Jan. 13 to Feb. 20, applicants were asked to follow the design scheme guidelines to design an upgraded and renovated version of the 10 selected public toilets. Their designs should signify the perfect unity of art, creativity and functionality. Their work should also have a clear theme, be environment-friendly and be easy to duplicate.

The applicants should finish their works independently. If found cheating, they will be disqualified and their scores will become invalid. Futian District Urban Administration Bureau owns the right to use and produce as well as copyright the design of the winning submissions. (Yang Mei)
