Meaning:

Literally meaning “fruit,” this term is originally a slang term from Beijing dialect referring to girls. Nowadays, it’s used to refer to female fans of a particular musician or band who follow the group or individual while they are touring, or who attend as many of their public appearances as possible. Such a woman is often also sexually involved with their idol. A similar term in English would be “groupie.”

Example:

A: 最近看了什么有意思的电影吗?

Zuìjìn kàn le shíme yǒuyìsī de diànyǐng ma?

Have you watched any interesting movies lately?

B: 周末看了一部老片子,叫《几近成名》。

Zhōumò kàn le yībù lǎo piànzi,jiào 《jījìn chéngmíng》。

I did watch an old movie over the weekend. It’s called “Almost Famous.”

A: 讲什么的?

Jiǎng shénme de?

What’s it about?

B:是一部关于记者、果儿和摇滚明星的电影,很真实。

Shì yībù guānyú jìzhě、guǒr hé yáogǔn míngxīng de diànyǐng,hěn zhēnshí。

It tells the story of a journalist covering a rock band and some groupies. The film is realistic.
