Man fined ¥100,000  for false testimony
    2018-03-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A MAN on trial was recently fined 100,000 yuan (US$15,824) by Qianhai People’s Court for making false testimony in court, sznews.com reported.

The defendant, identified as Wen, was accused of having infringed on the plaintiff’s legal rights by repetitively making untrue statements and also delaying the lawsuit’s progress, according to the court.

The court said their decision was made in order to crack down on dishonest behavior in court and thereby improve the credibility mechanism of the judiciary systems.

Wen was the former legal counsel and executive chairman of the board at a company that accused him of failing to return the company’s legal documents, such as business operation license, company chop and financial reports.

During the first trial, Wen claimed that the company’s human resources manager, surnamed Tan, had taken charge of the company chop, but at the second trial he admitted that the chop was actually in his possession, after the court had gained evidence.

According to the court, Wen was withholding the company’s chop illegally and lied to the court several times, which was considered contempt of court.

Wen did not lodge an appeal for review of the penalty, but he failed to pay the penalty within the designated period. The court will take enforcement actions to urge Wen to pay the money. (Zhang Qian)
