TWO men, armed with a kind of powerful slingshot and arrow, were seen catching fish in Futian River in Shenzhen Central Park on Monday afternoon, sznews.com reported yesterday. According to some people standing on the bridge, a man in red pants quickly ran to the riverside after he saw the fish in the river. He stood on the bank and skillfully shot a short arrow with a slingshot. The arrow hit the fish, but as it was too big to scoop up at the time, a man in a white shirt came to help. He waded into the river and hauled out the big catfish. The slingshot and arrow looked very powerful, said the people. They said there were many people in Central Park enjoying recreation and entertainment. If the arrow had accidentally hurt someone, the consequences would be unimaginable. A public security inspector in charge of the area said that he was at the scene and had tried to dissuade the two men from catching fish, but they ignored his warning. He added that even though there is a ban on fishing in the area, a few people ignore it because of the lack of clear consequences. He said inspectors are usually helpless in these situations, as they can only try to dissuade violators since they don’t have the authority to enforce the law. (Zhang Yu) |
