RECENTLY, different subdistricts in Futian carried out drug-control training for social workers in March. The lectures given by British lecturer Mark Williams were well-received among the participants, and created a passion for learning. Learning about the current drug-control situation in the U.K. and comparing drug-control efforts in different countries further broadened the horizons of the social workers. Ye Xiong, an addict-turned-lecturer, shared his personal experience of getting addicted to heroin and later succeeding in rehabilitation, which deeply touched the social workers in attendance and convinced them that “although it’s hard to break a drug addiction, it is possible.” Zhou Lihui gave a talk about typical cases in the family therapy model against the backdrop of Chinese culture, which enabled the social workers to realize the importance of localization in drug control. Ding Yi, who has been doing clinical work on substance dependence for over 10 years, is very knowledgeable about psychoactive drugs, the variety of drugs and their addiction, as well as different mental disorders. Ding’s lecture enriched the knowledge of the drug-control social workers. One social worker, surnamed Luo, said that through the training he was able to learn about their drug control measures and techniques, which widened his perspective. The trainings focused on six aspects including the current situation of drug control in the U.K. and its operation theory, the drug treatment model in the British society, and the medical knowledge about psychotropic and narcotic drugs.(Chen Xiaochun) |
