Pop singer Zhang Liangying, also known as Jane Zhang, will give her “Jane’s Secret” tour concert in Shenzhen on May 19. Zhang’s singing career started when she won third place at the Chinese singing contest “Super Girl” in 2005. The next year she released her debut album “The One.” Known for her signature whistle register, she was dubbed the “Dolphin Princess.” Born in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, Zhang majored in English at Sichuan University. She started singing at local pubs, where she was exposed to a wide range of music, especially Western pop singers such as Mariah Carey, who is one of Zhang’s favorite musicians. In the past 12 years, she has released several Chinese albums, including “Update” (2007), “Jane@Music” (2009), “Believe in Jane” (2010), “Reform” (2011) and “The Seventh Sense” (2014). Her English single “Dust My Shoulders Off” features U.S. rapper and producer Timbaland who praised Zhang as “a global artist.” Just two weeks after it was launched, the song broke into the top 5 on the iTunes download chart, making her the first Chinese artist to do so. Zhang’s relentless drive to reach the world stage has taken her to singing live for an Oprah Winfrey’s show in 2009, the Beijing Olympics Games in 2008 with Andrea Bocelli, the grand opening performance of the Disney Shanghai Resort and featured on the “Terminator Genisys” soundtrack with Big Sean. Other co-collaborators include 50 Cent, Eminem, John Legend, DJ Tiesto, Chris Botti, Kitaro, Lang Lang, David Foster, Ne-Yo and Tan Dun. As one of the best-selling female pop singers in China, Zhang is also the winner of several music awards in China.
