SHENZHEN is planning to build a Metro station on Line 24 on Xinzhou Road to improve the traffic near Peking University Shenzhen Hospital and the Jingtian area in Futian District. At a meeting on May 29 in response to inquiries about the progress in handling the proposals put forward by local political advisers, the city’s rail office said it was infeasible to build an underground passage to link Jingtian Station of Line 2 with the hospital as the two locations are just 500 meters apart. The construction of the underground passage would pose a threat to the safety of Metro Line 2 and affect landscaping on Lianhua Road. It was not feasible to build a passage under Xinzhou Road or Lianhua Road to Peking University Shenzhen Hospital because of geographic conditions, pipelines and land use problems, office officials said. In reviewing the situation, the city’s urban planning, land and resources authorities took Peking University Shenzhen Hospital into consideration and decided to build a Metro station near the hospital. Metro Line 24, which is still in the planning stage, will have a station on Xinzhou Road to the west of Peking University Shenzhen Hospital. Metro riders will be able to walk directly to the hospital after exiting the station. The station will help relieve traffic congestion during rush hours at Peking University Shenzhen Hospital and the intersection of Lianhua and Xinzhou roads. The draft plan for Metro Line 24 will be submitted to the authorities for approval. The east-west Metro Line 24, which is being planned and is seeking public suggestions, will run 32.8 kilometers from Qianhai to Luohu, passing Shenzhen High-Tech Industrial Park, OCT, Huangmugang and Bagualing.(Richard Han) |
