From high school to college
    2018-06-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

广东外语外贸大学市场营销1601班 林淇森

Lin Qisen, Class 1601, Marketing Major, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies

I was probably staying up late studying and planning for my college life at this time two years ago when I was in high school. I was perplexed for the coming college entrance exam because I was not sure whether I could perform as well as usual. Besides, my grades had not been excellent enough for me to expect to enter a top university of science and engineering, which was my goal back then.

A little bit frustrated but within my expectation, I was enrolled by Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. How time flies and it’s marvelous that I’m sitting in a library now in a different city with different people and different surroundings while recalling the days gone by.

Life in college is not as easy as I was told in high school. I entered different student groups in order to meet different people and improve my comprehensive abilities. Irrelevant to my subject in high school, I major in Marketing and minor in Finance. Sometimes, the assignments come at the exact same time. Though I’m an optimistic student and always find ways to release my stress, I’m overwhelmed and exhausted on some tough days. Nevertheless, I believe what I am working hard on now is meaningful. I will appreciate that in the future. I witnessed many hard-working pals around me. They study hard, set clear goals and spare no effort to fulfill them. Some have secured internships at giant companies for the summer vacation; others have acquired different certifications that may be useful for their future career.

To be honest, I love the life in college more than that in high school. In high school, study was the priority while now I can do things that I couldn’t do previously. I am learning to drive, going to the gym and spending more time on my hobbies, such as watching English-language films and learning English. Compared with me in the past, I think I am eager for knowledge and don’t feel like playing games as much as in the past. It’s wasting my life if I spend too much time on it.

In my spare time, I tend to read news related to my major and further study my English to get ready for IELTS. College life makes me more mature and gives me adequate time to ponder what I really want to be and how I’ll manage to achieve my goals.

There are many decisions waiting for me to make. I will maintain my affection for life as well as embrace the unknown. Once I make a decision, I will stick to my original intention and never regret it.
