Ex-official stands trial

A FORMER senior political advisor from Central China’s Hubei Province on Thursday stood trial for taking bribes, at a city court in neighboring Henan province.

Liu Shanqiao, former vice chairman of the Hubei Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, was charged with accepting money and property worth more than 17.9 million yuan (US$2.75 million) from 2009 to 2017, according to prosecutors.

Crystal meth seized

POLICE in North China’s Hebei Province said Thursday that they have apprehended five people for drug trafficking, seizing 21 kg of crystal methamphetamine in Yanjiao Town.

In December 2017, police in Langfang City received tips that people were selling drugs in Yanjiao, a town adjacent to Beijing.

After several months of investigation, on May 4, police raided an apartment in Yanjiao and seized one suspect, surnamed Li, along with 41 bags of crystal meth found in his minibus. Five other people suspected of drug abuse were also seized in the apartment.
