Visa application process made easier for Chinese students
    2018-06-27  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

英国简化中国留学生的申请手续

The United Kingdom is making it easier for Chinese students to come and study at the U.K.’s education institutions. The news was announced on June 15.

Under changes to the U.K.’s Immigration Rules due to come into effect on July 6, 2018, U.K. Visas and Immigration is reducing documentation requirements for Tier-4 student visa applicants from China.

The changes mean Chinese students will not be required to provide evidence of finances, qualifications or evidence of their English language ability with visa applications. They will also no longer have to apply from China to be eligible to benefit from the new rule.

“The simplification of the U.K. visa application process for Chinese students is great news for thousands of young people starting their courses this autumn and for those considering a U.K. education in the years to come,” said Dame Barbara Woodward, HM Ambassador to China.

“International students make a significant contribution to the U.K., and as ambassador I am extremely proud that the quality of our education is continuing to attract the brightest and best from China in increasing numbers each year,” she said.

All Chinese students will still need to meet all requirements under the Tier-4 visa route, and the UK Visas and Immigration reserves the right to request this evidence in full and will do so for a random sample of applications.

These new arrangements already exist for students from a number of other countries and regions, including the United States and Malaysia.

In the year ending March 2018, the U.K. issued around 89,000 Tier-4 study visas to Chinese students, a 15 percent increase from the previous 12 months, with a 99 percent success rate.
