Zhang Yu JeniZhang13@163.com SHENZHEN University General Hospital, a new city-level hospital located in Nanshan District, officially opened to the public yesterday. Fully funded by the city government, the hospital is the first affiliated hospital directly under Shenzhen University (SZU) and is built in accordance with the standards of a first-grade hospital. It is positioned as an international and digitized hospital, which integrates clinical medical treatment, scientific research and teaching, health management and rehabilitation health care. The hospital covers an area of nearly 90,000 square meters and is mapped out to provide 2,000 beds in two stages. The first phase of the project was completed as of September last year with a construction area of about 140,000 square meters and 800 beds. At present, five functional buildings and 800 parking spaces are put into service. In addition, the hospital is equipped with some of the world’s most advanced medical diagnosis and treatment equipment, such as magnetic resonance imaging, a 256-row computed tomography (CT) scanner, and an automatic biochemical immune analyzer. The second phase has also commenced, in which an inpatient building providing 1,200 beds and buildings for teaching and scientific research will be built. After it is completed, the total floorage is estimated to reach 600,000 square meters. “The opening of the hospital will create a more solid platform for the integration of medical treatment, teaching and scientific research in the area of clinical medicine for Shenzhen University,” said Li Qingquan, president of SZU. “It is also of great significance to the construction of the medical discipline and talent training system in the university, setting a milestone in its pursuit of becoming a high-level, characteristic and first-class university,” Li added. According to Li, the hospital has introduced 38 academic and professional leaders and 16 leading medical teams from across the country, laying a solid foundation for talent training and the hospital’s development. At the beginning of the operation, the hospital opens 19 clinical departments and eight nonclinical departments, and provides general, expert and special disease outpatient services. It has been reported that preparations started in 2007 for the construction of the hospital and a test run was launched Dec. 29, 2017.
