Waterfall wanderlust: Cool off by waterfalls in GD (I)
    2018-07-09  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

ONE amazing option for cooling off in the summertime is sitting next to a waterfall and enjoying the fresh mountain breeze. Today we will explore the waterfalls in Guangdong and check out the surrounding villages, creating another chance to have close contact with nature.

    Baishuizhai Waterfall in GZ

Located in Paitan Township, Zengcheng District in Guangzhou, Baishuizhai is about 200 kilometers from Shenzhen and takes three hours to reach by bus.

Baishuizhai is a provincial tourism resort known as the emerald of the Tropic of Cancer. Covering an area of nearly 200 square kilometers, it boasts unique waterfalls, weathered landforms and topography, and an enchanting ecological system that consist of thick forests, hot springs, mountains and lakes.

A magnificent waterfall, nicknamed “Fairy Waterfalls,” plunges from the 828-meter-high Baishuizhai Mountain. The waterfall has an elevations change of 428.5 meters.

If you love climbing mountains, you can try to climb the “Greatest Stepladder in South China” with a total of 9,999 stone steps in Baishuizhai Mountain. The 9,999 steps include stone steps, mountainous roads and wooden boardwalks. Along the way, you can experience the water-fun plank road which was built with wood from sea boats.

When you visit Baishuizhai Waterfall, do check out the nearby Dongdong Village. Located in the northern mountainous area in Paitan Township, Dongdong Village enjoys a history of over 500 years. From the village, you can see the Baishuizhai Waterfall and the Nankun National Forest Park.

Along the clean and tidy streets of the village, you will see the houses standing on both sides of the streets are adorned with huge paintings which reflect the local customs and culture. Here you cannot only listen to the story of a hundred-year-old tree, but also pick dragon fruit by yourself at the local dragon fruit plantation and take a relaxing stroll with your family around the Dongdong Culture Park.

    Feihuashui Waterfall in Shaoguan

Three kilometers from the Bailian Guxishui Village, the Feihua Brook and the Shilong Brook meet and form the Feihuashui Waterfall. Following the different falls of the brook, there are three waterfalls from top down. May and June are the best time for viewing the waterfalls.

After the meeting of the two brooks, the joint brook flows toward the west. Along the way, you will encounter strange-shape stones, wondrous pines, torrent, deep pond and other beautiful scenery. The stunning nature scene and the beautiful babbling or splashing sound of the water are sure to make you forget the daily trouble, help you recharge your life and refresh your mind.
