ONE amazing option for cooling off in the summertime is sitting next to a waterfall and enjoying the fresh mountain breeze. Today we will contintue to explore the waterfalls in Guangdong and check out the surrounding villages.

    Panlong Gorge waterfall cluster 

    Can you picture a scene of nearly 100 waterfalls in one place, producing a symphony of sounds with the gurgling and crashing of water?

    Located in the northwest Deqing County, Zhaoqing City, and 28 kilometers from the county seat, Panlong Gorge Scenic Area boasts a long gorge and the No. 1 waterfall cluster in Guangdong Province with more than 100 waterfalls. 

    The Guangdong provincial tourism administration has acknowledged that the waterfalls are some of the region’s most impressive. Indeed, their beauty is rare in Asia.

    Panlong Gorge is an ideal destination for admiring pristine natural scenery and learning about Chinese dragon culture and legends. It is honored as the photography base for the Guangdong Photographers Association.

    In this tourism attraction, you can see the sprawling green of aged trees including the “living fossil” fern, which is rated as a first-grade nationally protected plant species. 

    Apart from enjoying the breeze brought by the waterfalls in the gorge, you can also experience the thrill of gorge rafting here. Making the most of its natural and ecological resources, Panlong Gorge Scenic Area has developed gorge rafting, boardwalk hiking trails, waterfall sightseeing,  a large natural swimming pool, and other ecological and leisurely getaway options.

    Jinlin Village

    Nestled in the mountains, Jinlin Village enjoys a history of over 1,700 years. Endowed with green luxuriant hills, clear waters and fresh air, the Lingnan water village has nurtured a simple and honest folkway.

    The magnificent Hui-style architecture, the antique wood bridges and the time-honored old trees are all safeguarding this ancient village. Here you can sail around the lake in a bamboo raft while enjoying a dance performance by local girls on the water.

    Huangchuan Three Gorges

    Huangchuan is the ancient name for the Lianjiang River. It originates in Hongyan Mountain of Xingzi Town and flows through Lianzhou, Yangshan and Yingde and finally merges with the Beijiang River at the mouth of the Liangjiang River. Its crystal clear and unpolluted water flows swiftly.

    From the Hongyan Mountain to the mouth of the Lianjiang River, the river meanders over 180 kilometers. The most impressive section of the river is its three gorges: the Yangtiao Gorge, the Longquan Gorge and the Lengqie Gorge, collectively known as Huangchuan Three Gorges.

    Along the three gorges, there are a total of nearly 30 waterfalls. Among them, the biggest and most magnificent one is the Yuanyang Waterfall with a fall of 80 meters.

    Fengyang Village

    As one of the first ancient villages to emerge in Guangdong, Fengyang Village in Lianzhou enjoys a profound history and culture. The Fengxi Old Temple first built in the Song Dynasty (960-1279), the Wu Ancestral Temple, the Xue Zhong Ancestral Hall and the old commercial street all stand witness to the glorious history and prosperity of the village.

    Nice landscapes and historical relics are not the only things the village has to offer. There is a list of local delicacies and unique customs awaiting you. The Fengyang Ancestor Birthday in celebration of the birthday of the earliest ancestor of the village Wu Jingyuan on April 14 of the lunar calendar is one of the grandest ceremonies of the village.

    The Xianrendong Scenic Area scatters a rhododendron forest, a sea of bamboo trees, an ancient forest and natural waterfalls. The Tianhe Waterfall, located in the forest, is 200 meters in height and nicknamed the “No.1 waterfall in South China.”

    You may have seen many waterfalls falling from above, but have you seen a waterfall under your feet? Above the waterfall clusters at Xianrendong there is a glass observation platform. Standing on the platform, you can not only have a special view of the waterfall under your feet but also look at the mountains in a sea of clouds in the distance. It’s the perfect site for indulging in photos and shouts of excitement.

    Xianrendong Village

    Located at the heart of Yunkai Mountain Range, the Xianrendong Village is warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The village is home to vast stretches of wild rhododendron and when summer comes, the whole mountain is covered with a colorful blanket.
