Fake licenses

A CITYWIDE operation against holders of forged licenses for special occupations has been initiated to reduce the risk of production accidents. Those who hold licenses to work in special occupations will be checked.

Possessors of counterfeit, forged or traded licenses will be charged and dealt with strictly. The working units that hire such employees will be held legally responsible.

Several government departments are working together on the operation, which will last until the end of the year.

Typhoon skirts off

TYPHOON Son-Tinh, the ninth typhoon this year, is expected to make landfall on coastal regions from Lingshui, Hainan, to Leizhou, Guangdong this morning, according to Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory.

It was 414 kilometers south of Shenzhen in the South China Sea at 1 p.m. yesterday and was forecast to pass the city last night, 350 kilometers away at the nearest point.

The observatory issued a blue alert for the typhoon and advised residents to stop activities at sea. It is expected to bring 10-30 millimeters of rainfall to the city.

Falling tile

A 7-MONTH-OLD baby luckily survived being hit by a tile falling from a residential building in Panlong New Village in Longhua District recently.

The baby’s grandma surnamed Hu was walking with the baby in her arms when the tile fell from the wall of the building, probably due to strong winds, and hit the head of the granddaughter.

The child was given two stitches at the hospital for the injury.
