AUTHORITIES at Mount Huashan, one of the Five Great Mountains of China, said a tourist was suspected of committing suicide by plunging off a cliff Tuesday. Video footage shows the man, wearing white and gray clothes and a hat, untie his safety belt and jump from the middle of Changkong Plank Road built along cliffs on the mountainside, Tuesday afternoon, according to a statement on the scenic area’s Weibo account. The body of the man was retrieved by rescuers Saturday afternoon. Preliminary investigations indicated that he committed suicide on the mountain located near the city of Huayin in Shaanxi Province. According to the statement, the identity of the tourist is currently being verified and a search is underway. Authorities are also looking for reasons why he took his own life. (China News Service) |
