Meaning:

This is an English word borrowed into Chinese and suddenly made popular by a pop idol. As urbandictionary.com explains, this word mimicks the sound a car makes when it skids. Then in hip-hop, many rappers use the ad-lib word in a similar way as “yo” and “huh,” which has no meaning at all. However, Chinese idol Kris Wu frequently used this word as an adjective on Chinese TV show “The Rap of China” to describe how amazing something or a person is.

Example:

A: 吴亦凡在《中国新说唱》中总是说skr,我不太明白他的意思。

Wúyìfán zài 《zhōngguó xīn shuōchàng 》zhōng zǒngshì shuō skr,wǒ bútài míngbái tā de yìsī。

Kris Wu repeatedly used the word “skr” on “The Rap of China.” I don’t quite understand him.

B: 其实这个词没有具体的意思,不过他用这个词表示“很赞”。

Qíshí zhègè cí méiyǒu jùtǐ de yìsī,búguò tā yòng zhègè cí biǎoshì “hěn zàn”。

In fact this word has no specific meaning, but Wu used it as an adjective meaning “amazing.”
