Piano concert by established musicians

Chinese pianist Choi Sown-le, U.S. pianist Jay Sun and Bulgarian pianist Ivan Yanakov will collaborate to present a concert. The program will include Brahms’ “Op. 118, No. 1-6,” four preludes by Rachmaninoff, Mozart’s “Variations on a Theme by Duport, K573,” Bach’s “Prelude and Fugue for Organ in D Major, BWV 532,” Chopin’s “Lmpromptu-fantaisie in C-sharp Minor, Op. 66” and “Nocturne in C-sharp Minor,” three preludes by Gershwin, Liszt’s “Mephisto Waltz” and Ravel’s “Toccata.”

Choi was named Instrumentalist of the Year by the Hong Kong Artists Guild in 1990 and he received The Great Pianist — Golden Dragon Award by the Hong Kong (Overseas) Literature and Arts Association in 1998 and was the first prize winner of the 1999 Pinault International Piano Competition in New York City. Presently he is chairman of the Hong Kong Piano Music Association.

Yanakov earned his degrees from the Mannes College of Music in the United States. In New York City, he performed extensively in chamber music and recitals and was awarded the Artists International Debut Series Prize at Carnegie Hall. He founded the London Chamber Players, a chamber orchestra composed of young professionals with a home season at Saint-Giles-in-the-Fields in Britain.

Yanakov was the co-founder of the Irvine Chamber Music Festival in the United States.

Sun is the vice dean of the piano department of the middle school affiliated to Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou. A piano performance master’s degree and computer science bachelor’s degree holder from University of Houston, Sun is a Yamaha Concert Artist and has given classes at Morningside Music Bridge and Tanglewood Music Festival.
