Drugs with valsartan

The National Health Commission on Monday required medical institutions of all kinds and levels to stop using medicines containing the active ingredient valsartan* produced by a domestic pharmaceutical company and to assist with related recalls.

Medical institutions must not use the recalled drugs containing impurity*-affected valsartan during diagnosis and treatment, said a statement by the NHC, which added that medical personnel should take efficient measures to ensure medical safety.

Sexual assault

Legal experts are encouraging people to speak out and call police in a timely manner in cases of sexual assault or harassment*, after news of several such cases involving well-known figures burned through Chinese social media.

On July 25, a young female author, Chun Shu, alleged that she had been sexually assaulted and forced to have sex by Sun Mian and Zhang Chi (both male), on Weibo, China’s twitter. The former is the founder of the magazine, New Weekly, and the latter is an author and member of the China Writers Association.

Vaccine case

Changchun police applied for the arrest of 18 top officials of Changchun Changsheng Bio-tech Co., including the chairwoman surnamed Gao, on Thursday on charges of producing and selling substandard medicines, thepaper.cn reported.

An investigation of the vaccine maker found evidence that it had illegally produced rabies vaccines for human use, Xinhua reported on Friday. From July 25, teams were dispatched to thoroughly investigate the whole process and entire chain of vaccine production of all vaccine producers.

Gaokao top scorer

Netizens raised 800,000 yuan (US$117,000) in just three hours for a top performer on China’s college entrance exam, the Gaokao, who has been diagnosed with leukemia*, reports chinanews.com.

Zheng Ye, an 18-year-old in Lishui City in East China’s Zhejiang Province, scored 694 out of a possible 750 in this year’s test, making him the city’s best performer. (SD-Agencies)
