Theft gang busted

FOLLOWING a one-month investigation, Longgang police recently busted a gang of 10 suspects who had stolen money from victims’ bank cards by obtaining personal and bank information with electronic devices.

The gang, with members scattered across six cities, had committed more than 50 crimes and stolen over 1 million yuan (US$144,600). It is so far the largest criminal gang to have committed these kinds of thefts in China.

The police said the suspects used electronic devices, like pseudo-base stations, to obtain personal information from their victims’ phones.

Trademark violation

A COMPANY named “Weixin Zhifu,” with the same Chinese characters as Tencent’s WeChat Pay, has been found guilty of infringing on the tech giant’s trademark by Nanshan People’s Court.

The defending company also claimed on its website that Tencent was its business partner, which led to Tencent’s lawsuit.

The Nanshan court had ordered the defending company to pay Tencent 100,000 yuan in compensation, but the company appealed to Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court, which upheld the Nanshan court’s verdict.

Gambling loser

TWO young sisters, aged 12 and 6, lived alone for more than 10 days after their mother was detained for gambling.

After receiving a report from the neighborhood regarding the plight of the sisters July 30, the Pingshan Subdistrict Office immediately contacted their father surnamed Wu, who had divorced their mother, Sun, in 2013.
