Organized crime crackdown carried out across Bao’an
    2018-08-17  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SEVERAL campaigns were recently carried out to crack down on crimes in different Bao’an subdistricts.

On Aug. 9, Fuyong Subdistrict held a meeting regarding the crackdown on crime, specifying that a campaign targeting crime would be carried out from that day until July of next year. This July, Fuyong Subdistrict was required by the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC to take special measures to deal with the serious problem of crime in the area.

Fuyong Subdistrict will strictly implement all work related to the crime crackdown. It will encourage the public to report the gangs that possess grass-roots power, manipulate and sabotage the grass-roots elections, monopolize community resources and embezzle public funds.

Fuyong Subdistrict will also start a campaign focusing on gangs instigating troubles during the process of property leasing, land requisition and demolition, and construction. The public security and law enforcement authorities will increase their efforts on inspecting public entertainment venues, such as hotels, massage parlors and nightclubs.

On Aug. 7, an art show themed, “Strictly punish gangs, share the fruit of safety” was held in Longzhu Square in the Longzhu Community in Xixiang Subdistrict, attracting over 500 audience members.

The Kuaiban show, “Crime Must Be Eliminated,” conveyed the concept of a crime crackdown through clapper talk, a kind of oral storytelling performance popular in northern China.

“I Am Not a Gangster,” another program staged in the form of crosstalk, told the story of a restaurant owner who had been bullied by a gangster and was seeking help from the police, under the guidance of a crosstalk performer, to root out the gang. The story aimed to educate residents about reporting criminals to the police.

On the same day, a publicity campaign on cracking down on gang-related crime was held in Luozuling Park in Shiyan Subdistrict. According to statistics, a total of over 3,000 copies of flyers and legal materials were given out. Besides, the staff explained the importance of the crackdown on crime by citing typical cases, encouraging the public to report clues and safeguard their own rights and interests. (Chen Xiaochun)
