THE first labor union for intangible cultural heritage in China’s large and medium-sized cities was established recently, according to an announcement at the inaugural meeting of Shenzhen Futian Labor Union for Intangible Cultural Heritage and the first congress of the union at the Intangible Cultural Heritage Gallery of Futian Culture House.

The union, which aims to safeguard the rights and interests of its members, will organize a variety of cultural events on a regular basis and give performances in nursing homes, residential communities, factories and schools to disseminate fine traditional Chinese culture.

The Intangible Cultural Heritage Gallery of Futian Culture Center has been fulfilling the role of showcasing and promoting intangible cultural heritage. Cultural events, such as performances, exhibitions and lectures, at the venue are accessible to residents all year round. The culture house has developed a number of cultural brands, such as “Fuyi Workshop,” “Futian Carries Forward Intangible Cultural Heritage” and “Dramas on the Weekends,” which have all been well received by the public.

Not long ago, Futian was awarded the title, “Home of Guangdong Folk Art.”Apart from promoting the development of intangible cultural heritage, Futian Cultural and Sports Center also pays close attention to the well-being of Futian’s workers. (Yang Mei)
