Ethnic and folk music week kicks off
    2018-09-07  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

For the purpose of benefiting the public with high-quality music, the fourth Fang Jinlong Shenzhen Futian Ethnic and Folk Music Week is being held at Shenzhen Concert Hall until Sept. 9.

Produced by Fang according to the theme “The Beauty of Traditional Chinese Music,” this edition of the music week graces attending citizens with world-class performances. Fang is a contemporary pioneer of the five-stringed traditional Chinese instrument known as the pipa, as well as a nationally-recognized composer, collector of exquisite musical instruments and one of Futian’s cultural ambassadors.

The week’s opening concert, titled “Sizhu Peony Pavilion: the 40th Anniversary of Career World Tour Futian Station,” will bring the audience to the south of China by way of music. The release ceremony for Fang’s new album “Sizhu Peony Pavilion · Water Mill” will also be held at the concert.

“The Beauty of Traditional Chinese Music: Celebration Concert of the 40th Anniversary of the Reform and Opening Up” is the guiding sentiment of the music week. Fang will play classical pipa works including “House of Flying Daggers” and “Memories of the South.”

In the closing concert “Music Along the Silk Road,” Fang will collaborate with the Japanese Chinese Orchestra, which is the world’s only Chinese orchestra composed of foreigners, to bring Chinese classics “The Gossamer Song” and “Send Me a Rose” and Japanese pieces “Castle in the Sky” and “Shima Uta.”

The event is hosted by the Futian District government and sponsored by the Guangzhou Tianhe Eighteen Youth Art Troupe.
