Shekou is a beautiful part of Shenzhen and great efforts are taking place to make it even more beautiful. However, what surprises me is that nothing is done about some very ugly eyesores. Several buildings are half completed, work has completely stopped and some of the buildings are rotting away. No. 1 eyesore is a “complex” of building next to Peninsula phase 3. Still covered in scaffolding and netting for several years at least, No. 2 is a huge building with a dome on top at the corner of Shekou Old Street and Wanxia Road. No. 3 is a huge tower next to Sea World. Work stopped just before Chinese New Year and was never restarted and all that remains is a huge ugly skeleton.

Taking into consideration the shortage of affordable housing, this is also a pure waste of resources. I wonder why the government doesn’t force developers to either finish those building or resell them to the highest bidder to have them finished. I truly hope that appropriate actions are taken to rid Shekou of these eyesores.
