BUILDINGS and offices of government departments at all levels are called on to set a good example for residents by strictly implementing the city’s latest waste classification rules before the end of this year, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported. The city’s urban management bureau and the government office affairs administration jointly issued a set of measures for government offices to implement waste classification rules. According to the latest measures, waste will be classified into nine major categories, namely battery, glass tube, glass, metals, plastics, paper, furniture, kitchen garbage and others. According to the measures, each work unit or building of government departments must have at least one waste disposal station with containers to collect glass, metals, plastics, paper, batteries and glass tubes. Work units that have canteens must also set up an independent container for kitchen waste. The offices and buildings can choose to assign an area to collect unwanted furniture according to their own needs. The waste disposal stations are required to be equipped with clear signs that match with signs printed on the documents of the measures, according to the report. For government buildings that have hired property management companies, the management companies will take responsibility for waste classification. For work units or departments that do not hire property management companies, the head of the departments will be in charge. People who are in charge of waste classification will need to maintain and clean the containers and notice waste delivery or recycling companies to come collect the waste. For discarded furniture, people responsible for waste classification will need to make an appointment for further collection services. The urban management bureau will provide trainings on waste classification in the following months. (Zhang Qian) |
