喜提
    2018-09-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Meaning:

“喜” means “joyfully,” and “提” means to “pick up” (as in “pick up a car one has paid for from the dealership”). The term first appeared online in March this year when someone posted a picture of a young woman standing in front of a high-speed train along with the caption “Congratulations for picking up your Concord train.” The woman in the photo was supposedly an online retailer doing business on WeChat, and the post was meant to mock those WeChat shopkeepers who have made a fortune quickly. Nowadays, the term is often used to mean “acquiring something precious, like an award or championship.”

Example:

A: 今年《了不起的麦瑟尔夫人》喜提五项艾美奖。

Jīnnián 《liǎobùqǐ de màisèěr fūrén 》xǐtí wǔxiàng àiměijiǎng。

This year, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” won five Emmy Awards.

B: 这部剧我没看过,有空一定找来看看。

Zhèbù jù wǒ méi kàn guò,yǒukòng yīdìng zhǎo lái kànkàn。

I’ve never watched the show, and will definitely watch it when I’ve got time.
