Malaysian singer and songwriter Penny Tai will give her “Mini Live” concert at the gymnasium of Bao’an Sports Center on Sept. 22.

In 1999 Tai was offered a contract by EMI Music and moved to Taiwan to pursue a career in singing and songwriting. She released her self-titled first album, “Penny,” in January 2000.

In 2006, she won Best Composer at the Golden Melody Awards for the song “Crazy Love,” the title track of her 2005 album. She formed the band Buddha Jump with the band D-power and released their first album, “Buddha Jump,” in 2011. Buddha Jump won the Golden Melody Award for Best Musical Group in 2015.

Her most popular song to date internationally was the end theme for the Taiwanese drama “Meteor Garden” entitled “The Love You Want.”

Since her debut in 2000, she has released 12 albums.

Pop stars

Chinese mainland singer Hua Chenyu will collaborate with Hong Kong singers Yip Sai-wing and Gillian Chung and Taiwanese singers Yoga Lin and Rainie Yang for a concert Sept. 29 at the stadium of Bao’an Sports Center.

Hua rose to fame after winning the 2013 Super Boy singing contest produced by Hunan Satellite TV. He is well-known for his powerful vocals, dramatic stage performances and talented composing. He is often recognized as one of the most influential singer-songwriters under 30 in China. In 2017, he released his third album, “H.”

Yip is best known as the drummer and co-founder of the rock band Beyond, formed with the lead vocalist Wong Ka-kui. Starting from 2002, Yip started to develop his career on the Chinese Mainland.

Chung is known as a member of the Cantopop duo Twins, along with Charlene Choi. Twins’ music was generally targeted at young teens, but in 2004 they began to attract a wider audience by venturing into different styles of music. Most of their singles reached the top of many musical charts. In 2010, Chung released her debut solo EP, which was sold as part of the package of Twins’ fourth compilation album “Everyone Bounce.”

Yang began her career in 2000 as a member of Taiwanese girl group 4 in Love. After they disbanded in 2002, Yang continued to pursue her career in the entertainment industry as a TV host and a TV drama actress. In 2005, she released her debut album, “My Intuition,” featuring the hit song “Intuition” as the theme song of “Devil Beside You” and “Ideal Lover.”
