‘Young and Dangerous’ actors reunited for ‘Golden Job’
    2018-09-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

ACTION stars from the popular 1990s Hong Kong triad movie series “Young and Dangerous” are reuniting again to pull off another crime-action film titled “Golden Job” to be released this weekend in domestic cinemas.

Directed by Chin Ka-lok, who played Big Head in “Born to Be King,” the sixth installment of “Young and Dangerous,” “Golden Job” reprises the original main cast members, Ekin Cheng, Jordan Chan, Jerry Lamb and Michael Tse. Rounding up the star-studded cast is veteran actor Eric Tsang, who acts as mentor to the group in the new movie.

However, the entirety of “Golden Job” — including the characters’ names — is unrelated to the original series. In the new movie, a group of five mercenaries disband after a failed mission. The quintet consisted of team leader Lion (Cheng), explosives expert Crater (Chan), intelligence officer Bill (Tse), getaway driver Calm (Chin) and computer hacker Mouse (Lamb). Five years later, Lion becomes a modern-day Robin Hood, stealing medicine to supply a refugee camp. But a life-saving drug is being held by a foreign intelligence agency. The band of brothers decides to hijack a van transporting the valuable medicine.

The movie is packed with intense action shot in different countries including Hungary, Montenegro, Japan and China.

“The spirit of brotherhood that these five actors share, both on screen and in real life, is a positive energy that our society needs,” said action legend Jackie Chan on July 18 during the fourth annual International Jackie Chan Action Movie Week in Datong, Shanxi Province.

The “Young and Dangerous” film series directed by Andrew Lau from 1995 to 2000 is a collection of six films about a group of young triad members detailing their adventures, dangers and growth in a Hong Kong triad society. The series is based on popular comic book series “Teddy Boy.”

Although the series was condemned by the press as glorifying triad societies, it was immensely popular in Hong Kong and launched its main actors into superstardom. “Young and Dangerous” also spun nine sequels and spin-offs, including seven by director Yip Wai-man from 1996 to 2010, one by Jingle Ma in 2001 and one by Daniel Chan Yee-heng in 2013.
