The Metro has become one of the most popular modes of public transport in Shenzhen because of its punctuality and efficiency. Since the city’s first Metro line was put into service in December 2004, an extensive underground network has been gradually developed over the past decade. Nearly half of Shenzhen’s metro trains were produced by CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co. Ltd. in Changchun City, Jilin Province. As of December 2017, 1,684 carriages running on the city’s underground rail network were made by the Changchun manufacturer. CRRC Changchun is one of the major railway vehicle producers in the country. Set up in March 2003, it employs about 18,000 workers and has the capacity to produce up to 200 trains and maintain 300 trains annually. Apart from metro trains, CRRC Changchun also produces high-speed trains for the country’s high-speed railway network. A delegation of local journalists was invited to visit CRRC Changchun recently to see how a metro train comes into being. (SD News) |
