FUTIAN police busted a mafia-type cross-border trafficking ring recently with the help of Zhuhai and Guangzhou police, seizing 1,331 kilograms of cocaine, the largest amount in a single case in China’s history. In July 2017, police set up a task force after receiving a drug traffic clue from the provincial department and arrested three Hong Kong natives surnamed Chen, Lei and Lai in a housing estate in Shenzhen. In Dongguan, police detained another two suspects and seized 40 kg of cocaine from an apartment. Following a clue provided by the suspects, police arrested three more suspects surnamed Cai, Chen and Liang in Guangzhou in February 2018 and seized 1,291 kg of cocaine, police said in the release Sept. 13. Two additional suspects, surnamed Zheng and Chen, were caught overseas March 7 and 22. The investigation showed three of the suspects had backgrounds in the Triad Society in Hong Kong. The drugs had been transported more than 20,000 kilometers from Peru in South America to the Chinese port cities and entered Hong Kong through Guangdong.(Han Ximin) |
