River clean-up SHENZHEN has set up a task force headed by city leaders to bust the polluters of five major rivers, namely the Shenzhen River, Maozhou River, Guanlan River, Longgang River and Pingshan River. The enterprises or venues that have polluted the rivers will be forced to close, suspend production for rectification or relocate. The authorities are trying to complete 40 percent of the tasks before the end of the year and the remainder before July 2019. Peach allergy A STUDENT at Hongling Primary School in Futian District fell into a coma recently due to an allergic reaction to an unpeeled peach. In a letter to the school Wednesday, the parents expressed thanks to the teacher for contacting the family in time, which probably saved the life of their son, surnamed Zhou. Zhou was in a coma when he was taken to the hospital, and a doctor said Zhou was suffering from allergic shock, which could have endangered his life if he hadn’t received timely treatment. Auxiliary insurance THE basic medical insurance and the auxiliary insurance for serious diseases have covered 14.5 million and 7.05 million people in the city, respectively, sources from the city’s human resources and social security bureau said. Emissions standards SHENZHEN’S environmental authorities will impose new emissions standards for light vehicles Nov. 1 to further reduce pollution and increase air quality, the government announced.
