Porcine infection

THE country has confirmed new outbreaks of African swine fever in the southwestern province of Yunnan, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs said yesterday.

A total of 298 of the 804 pigs on a local farm in Zhenxiong County in Zhaotong were confirmed to have died from the disease, while 247 of the 353 pigs at another local farm also had become infected and died, the ministry said.

11 missing

ELEVEN people are missing after a ship carrying sand sank in seas off Northeast China’s Liaoning Province, local authorities said yesterday.

The accident occurred at around 3 a.m. and the maritime search and rescue center of Huludao City received a report at around 5 a.m.

Drugs seized

POLICE in Southwest China’s Yunnan Province have arrested three people on suspicion of smuggling drugs from Myanmar to China and seized over 127 kg of methamphetamine, local authorities said yesterday.
